Tank Testing FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions
about Tank Testing:

Q: Does the entire station need to be shut down to test?
A: Usually your entire station will not have to be shut down if certain safety considerations can be met without doing so. The technician on your site will let you know if you can safely sell gasoline and what type.

Q: Does someone need to be at the site when you test?
A: Yes. A facility representative should be present while testing is being conducted.

Q: How long does testing take?
A: The time required to test your facility can vary based on the number of tanks to be tested, and any other additional services scheduled to be completed during that visit.
We test two tanks at a time for approximately 2 hours per test, 45 minutes per line test, and 15 minutes per leak detector tested.

Q: How much fuel do I need to have in the tank before testing? What else is required to test?
A:
The tanks need to have a minimum of 6" of fuel but be at no more than 85% capacity. Certain states require a specific amount of fuel be present in the tank before testing. Please check with the Tanknology Operations Manager for your state's specific fuel requirements when scheduling your test.
• There should also be less than 2 inches of water in the tank.
• 2" direct access to the tank is required.
• Access to 110 Volt Power Outlet within 100 feet of where we
   will need to park.
