Stage II Vapor Recovery Testing FAQ

How much fuel is required for testing?2020-07-22T17:49:37-05:00

Pressure Decay For pressure decay testing, your gasoline storage tanks must have no more than 75% product. There can be no less than 25% product or no less than the total gas capacity minus 20,000 gallons — whichever the two of these calculations is greater. The more fuel you have in your tanks, the less time it will take to test.

For example if you combined all gasoline tanks: 3-10,000 gallon tanks = 30,000 gallons. You must have at least 10,000 gallons of gasoline but no more than 22,500 gallons.

NOTE: You cannot receive a fuel delivery within three hours of testing! The results will be inconclusive and require additional testing which will result in additional fees!

Air to Liquid Testing — No fuel requirements

Wet/Dry Blockage Testing — No fuel requirements.

NOTE: Many stage II failures occur due to damaged hoses and nozzles. It is suggested that a visual inspection of these items be conducted prior to the test date to identify potentially defective hoses or nozzles. Tanknology can provide some of these components at an additional charge to you if required. However, it is not possible for us to carry every brand and style of part, so it is best that you have some extra hoses and nozzles on hand.

How long will my station be shut down while testing?2020-07-22T17:45:26-05:00

Pressure Decay – Approximately 2 Hours
Wet/Dry Blockage – Shutdown time varies, depending on state requirements
Vapor/Air to Liquid Ratio – Approximately 45 minutes per dispenser
